Meta Platforms and Corning announced a multiyear agreement valued at up to $6 billion to supply high-performance optical fiber, cable, and connectivity solutions for Meta’s expanding U.S. data center footprint. The deal is framed as part of Meta’s broader push to build more advanced AI-capable infrastructure domestically, where data movement, low latency, and dense interconnects are critical to training and running modern AI systems at scale.

Under the arrangement, Corning will provide its newest generations of optical connectivity products designed for the density and throughput demands of next-generation data centers. The companies said the partnership is intended to accelerate buildouts in the United States and strengthen domestic supply chains for key components that sit behind the boom in AI computing.

Corning said it will expand manufacturing capabilities across its North Carolina operations, including significant additional capacity at its optical cable manufacturing facility in Hickory, where Meta will serve as an anchor customer. The company also indicated the investment is expected to support employment growth in the state by roughly 15% to 20%, helping sustain a workforce that already totals more than 5,000 employees there.

For Meta, fiber and interconnect hardware are no longer mundane plumbing; they are strategic constraints on how quickly AI clusters can scale. High-bandwidth links inside and between buildings can determine whether expensive compute is fully utilized or sits idle waiting for data to move, making optical infrastructure a priority spend as companies race to build larger training environments.

Investors treated the announcement as another signal that the AI buildout is translating into large, long-duration contracts for suppliers beyond chips alone—spanning power, cooling, materials, and now fiber connectivity. With more AI data centers planned across the U.S., the deal adds to growing evidence that the infrastructure phase of the AI cycle is broadening and deepening.
